Recently I photographed the talented Dutch designer Fransje Gimbrère while working on a huge artwork called ‘Cirrus’ for the Municipality of Tilburg.

Entering her studio was like walking into a white almost fairytale like world. I immediately felt the elusiveness of a cloud surrounding me. The room was filled with parts of Cirrus and strings of glass fibre and cotton threads in the subtle green and blue colours hanging on the walls. I very much enjoyed following her while weaving the coloured threads through the artwork, shaping Cirrus into its final form and following her work among the elusive texture of the objects that would later be put together in the council chamber.

Within Cirrus Fransje combined the old textile craft of weaving with the 3d weaving method she developed for her Standing Textile(s) collection. The object consists of thousands of threads, crossing in three directions, which form a whole from afar and symbolise the many individual streams of thoughts and ideas, that intertwine in the council chamber. The place where Tilburg residents are represented and Cirrus now floats above the heads of the council.
